Allergy
The other day my elder son celebrated his birthday with a few of his school frinds. There was one boy who was highly allergic to nuts. The mother told me that Wallace would love to come for Johann's party and that since he was allergic to nuts she would provide him with his food too. But I told her no.. I would arrange for a nut free cake and food. I admire the parents of Wallace. Inspite of the fact that it was a life threatning condition, they chose not to deprive their son from having fun in his life. If it were me, I would be so protective( read over-protective) that I would probably end up smothering my son. It takes a lot of faith to deal with things like this. She then gave me a pack with his anti-allergic shot etc and gave me instructions on how to use it too when they came for the party.I was tensed the whole time when he was having the food but later when he told me that he had the time of his life I was so happy for him. It must be so tough to live in a world where there are nuts in almost all the food that we eat!!!It also got me thinking of the fact that there are so few resources to get nut-free food in Canada. I mean with the high rate of nut allergic kids here, you'd think they would have more resources to deal with it.Why do people suffer more allergies in the Western part of the world rather than in places like India? Or is it that they do exist there too, but there is not much exposure?
